Russian Passport Photo and Visa Photo Requirements, Rules, Guidelines, and specifications

Along with the snippet of information presented above, there are a few other items and tips you should be aware of when taking these types of photos. Below is a much more in depth collection of how to take a proper passport or visa photo:

  • Every application needs 1 photo. If you have more than one person you plan to submit for such as a spouse or children, they will need 1 copy of their photos.
  • Sizing of 35mm by 45mm is strictly enforced. No larger. No smaller.
  • Your face should be centered and taking up half the image.
  • Neutral expressions are the only acceptable look when taking these photos. No smiling at all and no frowning. Keep face relaxed.
  • Eyes cannot be hidden and should stare straight ahead into the camera. Glasses can be worn if they are prescription, tin framed, none tinting lenses or without glare.
  • Hats or other head pieces cannot be worn unless it’s for medical or religious reasons. If that’s the case, a note from a doctor and an additional form may be required regarding your medical reasoning. Either one cannot block any part of the face.
  • Keep lighting even and bright enough to reflect true skin tone.
  • Digital enhancements or touch ups such as mole, scar or blemish removal is not permitted.
  • If you normally wear a beard, keep it for the photo. Otherwise don’t grow one out before your picture is taken.
  • Pictures must be printed on glossy, high quality photo paper. Matter will not be accepted.

Rules and requirements for babies, infants, and newborns Passport and Visa photos

Children heading overseas with parents or friends require their own, separate passport and visa (depending on the country). This means an individual photo. It doesn’t matter if the child is a newborn or 17 years old, each one must possess a valid government issued booklet. The above regulations apply to children but there a few additional tips to photographing infants:

  • The infants face should face the camera, have mouth closed and eyes open.
  • Use a white or light colored sheet to drape over a car seat or lay on the floor behind the child.
  • No other objects or persons cam be photographed with the baby. This includes parents or their hands.
  • Toys, pacifiers, bonnets or other items cannot be in the picture though such items can help keep a babies attention off camera.
  • Be sure to submit 1 photo of each child photographed. Group images or missing photo will be rejected.

Price and Cost

Attempting to track down a place and person to get your photo taken can be a challenge. Most everyone is busy with family, work and other activities. The last though is having to drive around a city, fight traffic and wait in long lines for a photo smaller than the palm of your hand. Luckily, countries are beginning to get on board with technology and allow conveniences for easier travel. Internet has changed how we all live our lives and receiving a passport or visa photo is also different. A few years ago, making the trek around town was the only alternative. A single photo took quite a while to obtain. Not to mention the cost. Even today, going to a post office or using another government facility can cost from 1000 to 1300 RUB. By choosing a trusted website such as MyPassportPhotos.com you could be spending 280 RUB on a single picture! Think of the amount of extra spending cash you can bring on vacation!
